A couple years ago, I used to make fun of meditation. I thought it was pointless and lame, but my parents continued to encourage me and my brother to meditate. Every time I would open my meditation app and start a sound, it seemed like I could never catch a break with my thoughts. After continued practice and learning, I have found many benefits to meditation. I’m not close to being a master at mediation at all, but I have definitely picked up some pointers along the way.

I’m going to share some facts about meditation, and why I think it should be promoted more.

Meditation has had a huge impact on my stress level and emotions. Even if I only sit down for 5 minutes, immediately after I feel calmer and relaxed. Meditation also can boost skills such as memory and awareness. Research shows that after completing a meditation program there are changes in participants' brains that are connected to memory, self-awareness, and perspective. Meditation is also proved to bring denser brain tissue in areas related to learning, emotions, and memory. All it takes is consistency and repetition to see results. It was also shown that there was decreased amounts of grey matter in parts of the brain that connect to fear and stress.  Meditation helps the mind, but it also can have improvements on the rest of your body. Mindfulness is connected to decreased blood pressure and a better regulated blood flow. This is why the stress levels are decreased from practice. There are many more benefits of meditation. You can start out with ten minutes a day and if you believe you can, I promise it will get better!
